George Roberts - Free Black Seaman

George R. Roberts, seaman, served aboard Chasseur with Captain Thomas Boyle during the War of 1812. Roberts was one of many free Blacks who helped defend the young nation during that conflict. This picture was taken late in his life. Roberts died in Baltimore in 1861 at the age of 95.
