Off to the (Water?) Park!
Your imaginary mom was so thrilled with
all of the information you found on the web about Maryland archaeology that she
has decided that the two of you should make a trip to Jefferson Patterson Park
and Museum in Calvert County.
Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum is an archaeological park where, during part
of each summer, volunteers can help archaeologists work on a site. You can also
visit a museum there with an exhibit about archaeology of Chesapeake Bay
region. The Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory is also located
there. This is the building where all of Maryland's 7 million artifacts are
stored! Your mom is hoping to get one of the archaeologists to look at the
stuff you found in your yard. (She's still on her Indiana Jones kick.)

Although you still think your mom is a little nuts about this archaeology thing,
she says that if you come with her, you can bring your best friend. AND...if the
two of you can do a little more research for her, she will take you both to the
new water park out there on the way back home. Well...you guess it sounds like
it might be sort of fun after all.
She asks you to get a
map of Maryland out of the glove box and locate Jefferson Patterson Park and
Museum in Calvert County. You think that's a good idea since your family gets
lost on trips sometimes.
Use a map of Maryland to locate Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum in southern
Calvert County. Answer Question 1 on Worksheet #2: Archaeology and the
Environment.
