Down But Not Out

Although watermen are almost an "endangered species," they are not out yet! In fact, they have their own organization called the Maryland Watermen's Association. The Association supports the lifestyle and beauty of living and working on Chesapeake Bay. The Association publishes a monthly newspaper, the Waterman's Gazette. This newspaper is also on the web. You can find lots more about what it is like to be a waterman by checking the web site.

For instance, the June, 1999, issue of the Waterman's Gazzette had articles on two other "old timers." Read about either Captain John Edwards or Charles Stanfield to compare their lives to Earl White's, the "Admiral of the Bay."
