Extension Reading #2
To Trade Union Women

Labor Unions were organized to regulate working conditions in the factories. These groups tried to protect the rights of the workers in canneries and factories. They advocated for laws to ensure these rules were carried out. They also let the public know about unfair and dangerous conditions that workers had to face in their jobs. The article below was published in 1913 in a newspaper called Life and Labor. It was written by Mary E. Dreier, an advocate for the rights of women and children.
