Steam Power

In the 1800's people learned to use steam power efficiently. Steam can be used to make things move because when water turns into steam, it expands. If the steam is captured in an enclosed space, it exerts pressure. This pressure can be used to make a piston in an engine move.

Below is a diagram of a steam engine. Trace the route of the water from the tank, where it is heated, to the valve, where it makes the piston move up and down.
