Locate the major cities of this region on this map. What clues did you
use on the map to help you decide which cities were major cities?
What two cities do you think were major trading partners during the
early nineteenth century? (Hint: one of them is in Maryland and the
other is known as the "City of Brotherly Love.")
Now complete the activities on your Worksheet. You will draw lines that
show a water route and a land route between these two cities. You will
estimate the distance of these two routes using string. Which do you
think is shorter?
