PRIDE II THIS WEEK January-February 2008
PRIDE II is at her winter berth in Canton undergoing winter maintenance. A significant portion of the work includes spar maintenance ~ varnishing the gaffs, boom, yards, topmasts and jib-boom. Crew are also spending time redoing the varnish in high wear areas below deck, such as the cabin soles (floors), the salon table, galley counters and dry-sink top. Upcoming projects include block overhaul and varnishing -- Did you know there are over 150 blocks aboard PRIDE II? Work in the engine room will include upgrading the pre-filter system to the water maker and de-rusting and painting the engines and transmission. Additional maintenance includes cleaning the head plumping (hoses) and de-rusting and painting the refrigeration system. On deck, the crew will be finishing the varnish on the galley hatches, which were stripped down to bare wood in the fall. Stay tuned for more projects.
