March Update
Spring Crew arrived on February 23rd and all have been going non-stop ever since. Long days, seven days a week are what the crew will endure to get the ship ready for Opening Day – April 9th.
The first week of March PRIDE II was stripped of her winter cover – a sure sign that Spring is just around the corner, and the top foremast and the top mainmast were reinstalled. On March 7th, PRIDE II motored down the Chesapeake to Portsmouth, VA where she will spend nearly three weeks undergoing haul-out and re-rigging. During haul-out, certain areas of PRIDE II ‘s hull will be re-caulked – old, wet or rotten oakum and cotton will be removed from between the planks and replaced with new material. Concurrent with the re-caulking, the crew will be busy re-rigging the ship and bending on the sails.
