Chart a course for adventure aboard Pride of Baltimore II, America’s “Star-Spangled Ambassador.” Join the crew and learn the workings of an authentic reproduction of a War of 1812 Baltimore privateer. Relive the adventures of the brave crews who sailed these sleek ships. Explore Baltimore Harbor history from the War of 1812 through the present day, both aboard Pride II and at some of our port’s legendary landmarks.
More than just a harbor cruise, Pride of Baltimore’s Young Privateers Summer Program is a voyage into history. During this weeklong day program, students will have the time of their lives sailing an authentic Baltimore Clipper while re-discovering Baltimore from a nautical perspective. Each day, students will help set sail and maneuver Pride II through the harbor. While underway, they will engage in interactive lessons in which they will track the role ships played in settling the Chesapeake Bay, investigate the personalities of a ship’s crew, and examine the innovations that made Baltimore Clippers the best ships of their time. With Pride II as a personal water taxi, students will also dock for guided tours of Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine, historic Fells Point, and the Inner Harbor to learn how ships and shore worked together to make Baltimore great.
In forty years as an ambassador of Baltimore, this incredible multi-day adventure is the first extended program aboard Pride II that has been offered. Building on our highly acclaimed half-day program, “Pride on the Chesapeake,” we are excited to offer two sessions of our inaugural Young Privateers Summer Program, July 10 through 14 and July 31 through August 4. Pride’s professional crew of twelve tall ship sailor-educators gives this amazing program a 3:1 student to instructor ratio. Each session will be limited to 30 students aged 12 to 16.
This summer, let your kids do more than just learn to sail, let them learn to “B’more” nautical!
